Lake Geneva's unique mix of history, natural beauty and resort facilities has long made it a vacation favorite for Midwesterners. Now, those same things are causing the rest of the nation to take note. Lake Geneva was named to the National Trust for Historic Preservation's list of Dozen Distinct Destinations for 2009. The group cited Lake Geneva's old style architecture, year-round recreation, historic downtown and variety of lodging as key contributors to the award.
"It's a great honor," says George Hennerley, executive vice president for the Lake Geneva Chamber of Commerce. "Lake Geneva is a very special place. We work hard to honor the past while maintaining the experience for area residents and visitors."
Lake Geneva is the fourth Wisconsin town to be named to the Dozen Distinct Destinations list, which has highlighted 12 cities each year since 2000. Only six states have made the list more than four times.
