Five great haunted happenings

It's that time of year to start scaring yourself silly. Not sure where to go? Check out any of these five haunted happenings to get your spooky fix.

Terror on the Fox
Green Bay, Through Oct. 31
Scare Level: Extreme

Named one of the top ten scariest Halloween attractions in the nation by Haunted Attraction magazine, Terror on the Fox offers four creepy attractions: Th1rt3en, Torment of a Mind's Eye, The Void and 3rd Dimension of Fear: Fear all Year. If these events don't get your heart pounding, you're probably dead. Try to escape Th1rt3en's haunted house among the flesh-hungry fiends. Attempt to stay sane in Torment of a Mind's Eye. Pay attention to your gut instincts to escape the complete darkness of The Void. And please, make sure to exit The 3rd Dimension quickly before the demons confuse you for a piñata.

Open  6:30 p.m. - 11 p.m., weekends and some weekdays
General admission, parking, and entry to one main attraction: $14, All four attractions plus general admission: $22

 

Ghost Stories in the Park After Dark
Phillips, Oct. 28
Scare level: Low

Prepare to see Wisconsin Concrete Park in a completely new light. Put on your brave persona as a knowledgeable tour guides takes you down a dimly lit path to share ghostly secrets nearly forgotten. Intriguing tales of ancient legends and eerie specters abound in this scary, but light-hearted event. Too scared to go alone? Bring the kids along for this "spooky, but not too spooky" affair sponsored by the Friends of Fred Smith, Inc.

Open Oct. 28, 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Free admission.

Ghost Out-Post Haunted House
Wisconsin Dells, Through Oct. 30
Scare level: High

Think you're the bravest of them all? We challenge you to make it through the Ghost out-Post Haunted House without screaming. In addition to the return of the Hallway of the Dead and the Vortex Room, 13 new animatronics were added to multiply the fun and the fear. Ever wonder what it feels like to be hunted by a man-eating rat? Or stuck in a maze with evil creatures lurking in the shadows? Prepare to find out, but remember while you may think its safe in the dark-you are not alone.

Open Friday-Monday
Adults: $8.95 plus tax; children under 12: $7.95 plus tax

 

A Theater of Lost Souls
Oshkosh, Through Oct. 31
Scare level: High

This place has plenty to offer any scare-hungry enthusiast. It contains the classics: a haunted barn and hayride, but also has something special-a sanatorium. Also known as a medical facility that housed Tuberculosis patients, parts of the sanatorium still exist on the grounds today. Take the hayride to find out the details of this chilling history. Take caution though, many believe the deceased still lurk near the facility. Rumor has it; they're not very shy either. Not enough scares? Stop by Your Last Ride where a simulator transports you to your grave as you wait in a real coffin. Also, stop by the haunted fun house for plenty of eerie black lighting, creepy murals and overall scares.

Paulson's Pumpkin Patch
Mosinee, Through Oct. 31
Scare level: Low

Paulson's Country Farm offers frightening fun for the whole family. Start out your adventure with a haunted wagon ride where ghouls, bats and witches wait for your arrival in the dark woods. Reward your bravery by getting lost in the 8-acre corn maze. While no creepy critters lurk here, the maze will play with your mind. Featuring twists, turns and a unique rest area in the center of the puzzle, you'll need all your brain power to crack the maze's code.

Open Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Farm entry is free. Corn Maze: $5 for ages 12 and over; $3 for ages 3-11 and free for under 2. Hayride: $2 for ages 3 and up.
